Our Story
Josh (Smurf) has been involved in endurance sports for the past 15 years including triathlon from sprint distance to Ironman, and more recently ultra running. Following 10 years in education as a teacher, middle leader and high school principal, Josh's hobby of endurance sports coaching became his full-time job. Smurf Endurance Sports was born including 1-to-1 coaching and programs, triathlon and run squads, and our two major run events; Cairns 50 and Smurf's Backyard Ultra.
Salome (Smurfette) is a triathlete with numerous age group wins and podiums, and two age group world championship finishes. Now a mother of two, Smurfette is a GP Obstetrician who is the foundation and sounding board of Smurf Endurance Sports.
With a combined 6 Ironman triathlons, over 30 70.3 distance races, multiple ultra-marathon finishes and a long list of other triathlons and running races, Smurf & Smurfette bring plenty of experience to the Cairns running and triathlon community.
